Description

Classic Swedish meatballs served over tender buttered noodles, a comforting and satisfying meal perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 lb egg noodles
  • 2 tbsp butter (for noodles)
  • fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Form the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the meatballs to the skillet and brown them on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in the beef broth until smooth.
  8. Bring the gravy to a simmer, then stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce.
  9. Return the meatballs to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through.
  10. Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and toss with 2 tablespoons of butter.
  11. Serve the Swedish meatballs and gravy over the buttered noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use a mix of half beef and half pork for the meatballs.
  • If you don’t have beef broth, chicken broth can be used as a substitute.
  • Adjust the amount of cream to achieve your desired gravy consistency.
