Hi there, I’m Annabelle Johnson, and I’ve been in love with food for as long as I can remember.

Annabelle Dishlyum

I was born and raised here in Texas, where the kitchen was always the heart of the home. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the counter, watching my mom stir a pot of chili while my grandmother pulled a peach cobbler out of the oven. What always amazed me was that, even though my mom worked full-time, she still cooked for us every evening with joy, laughter, and a sense of pride. From her, I learned that cooking isn’t about having endless hours, it’s about making space for love and connection at the table.

Now at 32, with a family of my own, I’ve carried that same love of comfort food into my everyday life. Like many busy parents, I don’t always have hours to spend in the kitchen, but I’ve made it my mission to reimagine those nostalgic, family-style recipes into something approachable. My mom’s example taught me that it’s possible to create quick, delicious meals on busy weeknights while also preparing big, hearty feasts when family and friends gather around. That balance between everyday simplicity and celebratory abundance is what inspires me most.

Of course, I’ve had my fair share of kitchen flops. There was the time I tried to make homemade tortillas in a rush and ended up with something closer to crackers, or when I once burned an entire sheet of cookies because I got caught up helping my daughter with her homework. But those little mishaps remind me that cooking doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s about feeding the people you love, laughing through the chaos, and enjoying the process even when it’s messy.

On my site, dishlyum.com, I’ve gathered recipes that feel like a warm hug after a long day. You’ll find Cozy Soups & Stews that simmer with flavor, Chicken & Meat Comforts that taste like Sunday dinners any day of the week, Veggie & Sides that make vegetables shine, and Sweet Comforts that bring joy in every bite. Each recipe is designed to be approachable, flavorful, and family-friendly—whether you’re short on time or planning a big family meal.

When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll probably find me at the local farmer’s market with a cup of coffee in hand, hunting for fresh produce and chatting with growers. I also have a soft spot for recipe notebooks. I’ve collected more than a dozen over the years, filled with scribbled notes, sauce experiments, and family favorites passed down from generations.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to help you put delicious, comforting food on your table without stress. Whether you’re a parent juggling dinner after soccer practice, a home cook craving a taste of nostalgia, or a food lover looking for your next cozy recipe, I’m here to share ideas, stories, and plenty of flavor along the way.

If you’d like to connect, I’d love to hear from you. You can always reach me at dishlyum@outlook.com, or just come say hello over at dishlyum.com. My kitchen is open, and there’s always room for one more at the table.
