Delicious soft baked apple squares topped with a sweet cinnamon glaze.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups peeled, diced apples
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- In a saucepan, combine apples, water, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook until apples soften.
- Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan. Top with apple mixture.
- Spread remaining batter over the apples.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let cool completely. Drizzle with cinnamon glaze.
Notes
- For the cinnamon glaze: Whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
- You can use different apple varieties.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
