Description

Delicious soft baked apple squares topped with a sweet cinnamon glaze.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups peeled, diced apples
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. In a saucepan, combine apples, water, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook until apples soften.
  6. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan. Top with apple mixture.
  7. Spread remaining batter over the apples.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  9. Let cool completely. Drizzle with cinnamon glaze.

Notes

  • For the cinnamon glaze: Whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • You can use different apple varieties.
