- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with milk and butter. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and diced carrots to the skillet. Cook until softened.
- Stir in the frozen peas, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Pour the beef mixture into a baking dish.
- Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the beef mixture.
- Sprinkle with cheddar cheese if using.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and ground lamb.
- If you don’t have beef broth, you can use water and a beef bouillon cube.
- You can add other vegetables like corn or green beans to the filling.
