- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons butter, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, egg, and honey.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cornbread is baking, melt the butter for the topping.
- Once the cornbread is done, brush the top with the melted honey butter.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter cornbread, you can add more honey.
- You can use a cast iron skillet for baking.
- Leftover cornbread can be stored in an airtight container.
