Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • For the crumb topping: 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, cold, cut into pieces, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Prepare the crumb topping: In a bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in vanilla.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the batter.
  8. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan before slicing and serving.
