Description
Make delicious old-fashioned baked beans from scratch.
Ingredients

- 1 pound dried navy beans
- 8 cups water
- 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Rinse the beans and soak them overnight in water.
- Drain the beans.
- In a pot, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon, leaving the grease.
- Sauté onion in bacon grease.
- Add beans, water, bacon, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper to the pot.
- Bring to a boil, then simmer for 2-3 hours, or until beans are tender.
- Bake in oven at 300°F (150°C) for 1-2 hours.
Notes
- Adjust seasonings to your preference.
- You can add a ham hock for extra flavor.
- Check the beans periodically and add water if needed.
