Description

A delightful Neapolitan cake featuring layers of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry cake, swirled together and topped with a creamy frosting. It’s a classic combination of flavors in a beautiful presentation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • ½ cup chopped strawberries, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon strawberry extract
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter and eggs. Mix until just combined.
  4. In a small bowl, combine milk and vanilla extract.
  5. Add half of the milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter into three equal portions.
  7. To the first portion, add melted unsweetened chocolate and cocoa powder. Mix well.
  8. To the second portion, add the pureed strawberries and strawberry extract. Mix well.
  9. Leave the third portion plain (vanilla).
  10. Spoon alternating dollops of each batter into the prepared cake pan. Gently swirl with a knife for a marbled effect.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  13. For the frosting: In a medium bowl, beat softened butter until creamy.
  14. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk, beating until smooth and fluffy.
  15. Stir in vanilla extract.
  16. Frost the cooled cake as desired.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
  • Do not overmix the batter.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
