Description
Marinated mozzarella cubes are a flavorful appetizer made with fresh mozzarella cheese marinated in olive oil, herbs, and sun-dried tomatoes. They are easy to prepare and perfect for gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh mozzarella balls or pearls
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, oil-packed, drained and chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cut fresh mozzarella balls into bite-sized cubes if using larger balls. If using pearls, they can be left whole.
- In a medium bowl, combine the olive oil, sliced garlic, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Add the mozzarella cubes to the marinade. Stir gently to coat all the pieces.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, drain off some of the excess marinade if desired. Serve the marinated mozzarella cubes with toothpicks or small forks.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh mozzarella packed in water, not low-moisture mozzarella.
- You can customize the herbs and spices to your preference. Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme can also be used.
- The marinated mozzarella can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Serve with crusty bread or crackers.
