Description

Marinated mozzarella cubes are a flavorful appetizer made with fresh mozzarella cheese marinated in olive oil, herbs, and sun-dried tomatoes. They are easy to prepare and perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh mozzarella balls or pearls
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, oil-packed, drained and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut fresh mozzarella balls into bite-sized cubes if using larger balls. If using pearls, they can be left whole.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the olive oil, sliced garlic, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Add the mozzarella cubes to the marinade. Stir gently to coat all the pieces.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Before serving, drain off some of the excess marinade if desired. Serve the marinated mozzarella cubes with toothpicks or small forks.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh mozzarella packed in water, not low-moisture mozzarella.
  • You can customize the herbs and spices to your preference. Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme can also be used.
  • The marinated mozzarella can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Serve with crusty bread or crackers.
