Description

A hearty and simple ground beef casserole with potatoes and cheese. This easy recipe is perfect for a weeknight family dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1.5 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Pour the beef mixture over the potatoes.
  6. Top with the remaining sliced potatoes.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  9. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute cream of celery soup for cream of mushroom soup.
  • Add other vegetables like peas or corn for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • For a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
