Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste


Instructions

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  2. While potatoes are cooking, warm milk, butter, and minced garlic in a small saucepan over low heat until butter is melted. Do not boil.
  3. Drain potatoes well. Return them to the pot.
  4. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or ricer until mostly smooth.
  5. Gradually add the warm milk mixture to the mashed potatoes, stirring until creamy and well combined.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot.
