Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 cups)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- For a sweeter crisp, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup to the apple mixture.
- If you prefer a less sweet topping, reduce the brown sugar to 1/3 cup.
- Feel free to add a handful of chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, to the crumble topping for extra crunch.
- Different apple varieties can be used. A mix of sweet and tart apples, like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith, works well.
