Description

A simple and delicious apple crisp recipe perfect for fall. This easy dessert features tender baked apples topped with a crunchy oat and cinnamon crumble. It’s a classic comfort food that’s quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly in an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • For a sweeter crisp, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup to the apple mixture.
  • If you prefer a less sweet topping, reduce the brown sugar to 1/3 cup.
  • Feel free to add a handful of chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, to the crumble topping for extra crunch.
  • Different apple varieties can be used. A mix of sweet and tart apples, like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith, works well.
