Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Cover the dough and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll dough into 1.5-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass.
- Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting: Beat softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, beating until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Divide frosting and tint with food coloring if desired.
- Frost cooled cookies and decorate as you like.
