- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups milk
- 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
- Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly.
- Reduce heat and add cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir until cheese is melted.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
- Pour the mac and cheese into a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
Notes
- You can add other cheeses like Gruyère or Monterey Jack.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder.
- Top with breadcrumbs for a crispy topping.
