Description

A classic apple pie served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box refrigerated pie crusts
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 6 medium)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Unroll one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie plate. Press it gently into the bottom and up the sides.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 3/4 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Dot the top with the small pieces of butter.
  5. Unroll the second pie crust. Place it over the apple filling. Trim the edges, leaving about a 1/2-inch overhang. Crimp the edges to seal. Cut vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
  8. Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
  9. Serve warm slices of pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for a more complex flavor.
  • Ensure apples are sliced thinly for even cooking.
  • Allow the pie to cool sufficiently to prevent the filling from being too runny.
