Description
A classic apple pie served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box refrigerated pie crusts
- 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 6 medium)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Unroll one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie plate. Press it gently into the bottom and up the sides.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 3/4 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Dot the top with the small pieces of butter.
- Unroll the second pie crust. Place it over the apple filling. Trim the edges, leaving about a 1/2-inch overhang. Crimp the edges to seal. Cut vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
- Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
- Serve warm slices of pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Use a mix of apple varieties for a more complex flavor.
- Ensure apples are sliced thinly for even cooking.
- Allow the pie to cool sufficiently to prevent the filling from being too runny.
