Description

A simple and delicious chicken cordon bleu casserole without frying. This dish combines tender chicken, ham, and Swiss cheese in a creamy sauce, baked to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  5. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  6. Stir in the shredded chicken, diced ham, Swiss cheese, parsley, pepper, and salt until the cheese is melted and the mixture is well combined.
  7. Pour the chicken mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  9. Sprinkle the buttered bread crumbs evenly over the chicken mixture.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Add cooked broccoli florets to the casserole for extra vegetables.
  • Top with extra Swiss cheese before baking if desired.
