Description
A classic baked pasta dish with Italian sausage and a rich tomato sauce.

- 1 pound mostaccioli pasta
- 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casings
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 15 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain.
- Brown sausage in a large skillet. Drain excess grease.
- Add onion and cook until softened. Stir in garlic.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta and Parmesan cheese.
- Combine cooked pasta, meat sauce, and ricotta mixture.
- Pour half of the pasta mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle with a cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Top with remaining pasta mixture and the rest of the mozzarella.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let stand for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use sweet or hot Italian sausage.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for extra heat.
- For a creamier sauce, add a splash of heavy cream.
