Description

Ingredients

  • 5 cups sliced apples (about 5-6 medium apples)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the Crumble:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  4. Add the sugar mixture to the apples and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  6. In a separate medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt for the crumble.
  7. Cut in the softened butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  8. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Crumble the dough evenly over the apples.
  10. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.
