- For the Crumble:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.
- In a small bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- Add the sugar mixture to the apples and toss to coat evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt for the crumble.
- Cut in the softened butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Crumble the dough evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
